Thunderhill HPDS Update
Hello Golden Gate Chapter Members,
I hope this note finds you well amidst a challenging year. On behalf of your High-Performance Driving School (HPDS) team and the GGC Board of Directors, I’m writing to let you know we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel our November 2020 HPDS at Thunderhill Raceway.
This wasn’t an easy decision. Our HPDS team spent numerous hours planning ways to adapt the program to social distancing protocols while still delivering the safety, education, logistics, and experience you expect with a GGC driving school. Ultimately, key factors driving our decision include:
- The continued spread and uncertain trajectory of COVID-19
- Guidance from our national office stating events should only be held where there’s a decline in cases within 250 miles of the event and for 14 days prior. This requirement may have required cancellation on short notice
- Demographics of our HPDS participants, many of whom are in “high risk” categories if exposed to the virus, and
- Concerns about lack of adherence to harm reduction protocols at hotels, restaurants, and non-track services in Willows and the surrounding areas.
Your safety and well-being is our top priority and a GGC core value. While I firmly believed in the team’s ability to successfully adapt the program, many factors lie outside our influence and control. We’ve gained valuable insights and some of these ideas will become part of our program even after COVID-19 becomes a distant memory.
While we have not yet put future dates on the calendar, we’re looking forward to our next opportunity to welcome you to a GGC HPDS event.
