2020 GGC Events Update
Hello Golden Gate Chapter Members, Supporters, and Friends,
As the weather warms and the sun shines, many of us are longing for days behind the wheel of our favorite BMW. I want to update you on GGC’s planned calendar of events and how we’re responding to COVID-19.
In the interests of public health and following the guidance of state and local government as well as BMW CCA National, we cancelled in-person events scheduled between March and the end of May, 2020. Since then, California has modified its shelter in place order and our national office has provided additional event guidelines. The updates below reflect our understanding of requirements as of May 28, 2020 and are subject to change.
Autocross and Car Control Clinics – Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, we (and other organizations) lost access to Marina Municipal Airport, significantly impacting our ability to hold these events. While we haven’t yet been able to secure alternate sites or dates, our program managers continue to pursue other venues and plan for the future.
Cars & Coffee (C&C) Events – Group events and public gatherings in which members of different households mingle remain prohibited by California’s shelter in place order. As such, Cars & Coffee events remain cancelled until further notice. It’s possible other organizations have different interpretations of the order and are scheduling C&C events; we in GGC have taken a conservative interpretation to promote the health of our members and the public.
Driving Tours – Some counties have recently amended their orders to allow “car parades”, which we interpret as allowing driving tours. We are planning driving tours that adhere to local ordinances and applicable social distancing practices. Information on these events will be posted to the GGC website and our social media pages.
High Performance Driving Schools (HPDS)/Track Schools – Our next HPDS is our incredibly popular school at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California, scheduled for November 7 – 8. As of now, we are planning to run the event, and are working with multiple organizations to develop and implement social distancing policies.
Virtual Events – While we can’t be together in person, we can still participate as a community. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and the GGC website for information on our virtual car shows, member profiles, and other virtual events.
On behalf of the GGC Board of Directors, our program managers and volunteers, thank you for your support and understanding as we navigate these challenging times and work together to stop the spread of COVID-19. We look forward to inviting you to future GGC events.
