Important Update Regarding our Autocross and Car Control Clinic Programs
Many of us in the Golden Gate Chapter (GGC) have visited Marina Municipal Airport to participate in an Autocross or Car Control event. The site may have been our first experience with the chapter, testing our car’s limits, or testing our own limits. With skydivers overhead, tires singing joyfully, and sandwiches big enough to feed a village, Marina holds many fond memories.
Yet, we’ve also known our ability to run events at this site was tentative as rumors circulated year after year that local or federal government agencies would cease motorsport activities. The rumors have finally come true, and Marina Motorsports recently notified us that we (and all other clubs) will lose access to the site for part or all of 2020 and beyond.
In the short term, we will unfortunately have to cancel a few scheduled programs. In the longer term, our Autocross and Car Control teams remain in contact with Marina as things develop and are investigating alternate locations. We do expect schedule changes, but do not yet know the full impact to our 2020 plans. And we appreciate your understanding and patience as we work things out.
In the meantime, we’re planning a great year of social events, driving tours, and high-performance driving schools including our return to Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca February 29 – March 1. Expect more details on our 2020 schedule of events coming soon.
